Revealed at the Night Garage Party in Seoul and later shown at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, the INSTEROID takes the brand’s smallest EV, the Inster, and gives it a shot of pure adrenaline. The result is a rally-inspired, gaming-infused fantasy machine that looks ready to tear through both real-world circuits and digital racetracks.
A Name That Says It All
INSTEROID blends the Inster’s identity with the “steroid” boost of extreme modification. Hyundai calls it a “glitch in the automotive matrix” and a “dream car,” the kind of unrestrained creation that is not bound by production feasibility. The concept is designed as a playground for experimentation, sparking imagination as much as showcasing design.
Exterior: Group B Meets the Gaming Age
The INSTEROID’s wide-body stance draws inspiration from Group B rally cars. Huge flared arches frame 21-inch mismatched wheels, with five-hole rally-style alloys up front and deep-dish turbine designs at the rear. A towering rear wing, chunky front splitter, roof scoop, and wheel-arch vents add to the motorsport drama. The matte white finish is accented by a bold orange and custom graphics, giving it a clean yet aggressive look.
Inside: All Business, All Play
The cabin is stripped for focus yet loaded with personality. Deep bucket seats, a visible roll cage, and a gamer-style steering wheel set the tone. Hyundai built in customizable cockpit controls so drivers can set up the layout their way. Drift Mode brings controlled chaos to the track, while a unique sound signature reinforces the car’s character. The Beat House sound system, inspired by DJ decks, and the Message Grid lighting system create an interactive, expressive environment. Sustainability also plays a role, with 3D-knit fabrics made from recycled yarn and lightweight lattice structures throughout.
Hyundai even created a reflective INSTEROID-branded racing suit, blurring the line between driver and concept.
Beyond the Show Floor: Going Digital
The INSTEROID lives beyond the physical. Hyundai launched a browser-based time-attack game where players power up the Inster into the INSTEROID, plus appearances in KartRider Rush+ and Roblox’s “Hyundai Future Adventure.” It is a clever way to connect with younger audiences who value customization and style as much as performance.
